Wani Ismail - Violinist
Wani Ismail started her musical journey at the age of 7 by learning Electone Organ at a local YAMAHA music centre. Her father introduced her to the violin when she was 10 year-old. She learned the violin under the Ministry of Arts under the guidance of Zameelah Borhan, a violinist in the National Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, she joined her very first music camp, under the Tunas Budaya program organized by the Ministry of Arts. That was the moment when she first gained her orchestra playing experience. Even though she was not sure on how the system of orchestra playing works, but the joy of playing and creating music together got her attention to be more involved in orchestras. At the age of 12, she learned with a new teacher, Mayya Musaeva, the concert mistress of National Symphony Orchestra. She became more involved and gained more exposure to music by participating in music camps, competitions, solo performances and ensemble performances such as duet or quartet. She was one of the longest existing members of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Istana Budaya, and have played for other local orchestras such as Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Bentley Symphony Orchestra and she also performed side by side with professional orchestra such as Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and other free lance orchestras. She is still actively performing for local concerts or events and has worked with people known to the Malaysian music industry such as Ramli MS, Pak Ngah, S.Atan, Alley Cats, Siti Nurhaliza and more. She has also performed outside of Malaysia, such as in Singapore for Amy Search’s concert in Esplanade she was also selected to be part of the ASEAN-Russia Symphony Orchestra that was held in Bali, Indonesia in 2011, Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2012, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei in 2013, as well as Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar in 2014. Aside from playing in orchestra, she also has the passion of arranging and composing music, and she has done a few arrangements for string quartet to broaden the repertoire list of Strings Attached. Wani earned her Bachelor in Classical Music, under the tutelage of Alla Yanisheva, from UCSI in April 2014.
Huan Po Ann - Violinist
Po Ann started to learn the violin from Mr.Yeo Chow Gui at the age of 9. She also took lessons from Madam Mayya Musaeva from the National Symphony Orchestra. She started to gain interest and experience in orchestral playing during her high school time, participating in Pay Fong High School Chinese Orchestra (PFCO) as a Erhu and Gaohu player. She was the President and also the Concert Master of PFCO. She had performed as guest player with the Multimedia University Chinese Orchestra (COS), Teo Chew Chinese Orchestra (TCCO), Connaught High School Chinese Orchestra, and was one of the founder of Seng Chong Chinese Orchestra (SCCO). She has recently earned her Bachelor Degree in Classical Violin from UCSI under tutelage of Ms. Yeoh Pei Ann. During her studies in UCSI, she served as Concert Master of the UCSI Symphony Orchestra. She has taken masterclasses from Dr. James Miltenberger, Lilian Green, Evgeny Zvonnikov, and Dr. Albert Wang. In 2013, She had the honour to perform in duo setting with the renowned acoustic guitarist from the United States, Trace Bundy, who is also known as the Acoustic Ninja during his Asia Tour Concert in Kuala Lumpur. Po Ann has also performed in The Ultimate Song Contest's Grand Finals live show organised by 8TV as a quartet violinist since 2013, and had the honour to play a solo on stage accompanying the winner of 2013, Quek Shio Yee. In 2014, she was invited to perform as a guest artiste in the 30-Hour Famine DIY camp organised by Sin Chew Daily. Po Ann is an active violin performer, playing both acoustic and electric violin with Malaysian band for weddings, corporate events, and also private functions. She is also a violin instructor, currently working at the Inote Music Academy, Melaka.
Ayeshah Hassan - Violist
Ayeshah plays both the violin and viola. She earned her Bachelor of Music (Performance) from National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA). Aside from playing with string quartet, she has also performed for TV show such as for TV3’s Rockestra, Selamat Pagi Malaysia, TV9's Versus and Mentor 6. Ayeshah was a member of Orkestra Simfoni Remaja and completed her internship with the National Symphony Orchestra. She has also been actively teaching violin since 2004 in various music schools around KL. She has played for several artists such as Sheila Majid, Search, Black, Dayang Nurfaizah, Azlan Typewriter and Amy Search. She also had the chance to play for the international artist, Maher Zain. She has also performed solo with the RTM Combo. Her recent performances were for the Temple of Fine Arts Classical Recital; FORTE and RTM’s Konsert Simfoni Warisan in which she performed a violin solo piece with the orchestra. Ayeshah has also done music recordings for local artists. She is now working with the orchestra of DBKL.
Sophia Ng - Cellist
Sophia Ng started her musical training at the age of 3 when she enrolled in the Yamaha Junior Music Course. There she received ear training, aural skills training and piano lessons. She began taking interest in large musical ensembles at a tender age of 9 when she participated in her elementary school symphonic band as the principal clarinetist and student conductor. Sophia studied the cello with Maestro Lim Soon Huat and joined the Jit Sin High School Chinese Orchestra whereby she became the student conductor and principal cellist. Simultaneously, she also joined the Jit Sin High School Philharmonic Orchestra as principal cellist. Through the years, Sophia has led and joined the orchestras in various concerts and competitions both locally and internationally. Among them, she won Gold with Honors award for large ensemble in the 21st Century International Arts Festival 2008 and 2009. She also led the orchestra in winning the gold award for the National Chinese Orchestra Competition 2009 and 2010. In 2010, she was awarded Best Student Conductor in the nationals. As for concerts, Sophia has joined her orchestra to tour Hong Kong in 2006, performing in the prestigious Shatin City Hall. In 2010, she and the orchestra held a concert in Shanghai, China in collaboration with the local orchestra. Sophia is currently a scholarship student pursuing BMus (Hons) Classical Music in UCSI University studying classical cello under Associate Professor Dr. Chong Yew Yoong. Apart from that, she is also under the tutelage of renowned cellist Jonathan Oh.
